They are few French artists who can boast to have in their repertory a track which became an hymn for the French public. Yaniss Odua is one of them and his tube “La Caraïbe” is now a classic of the French reggae history. It’s far from being his only quality because Yaniss Odua is a central character of that dynamic musical movement.
Since his debuts in Martinique with 12 years old under the benevolent leadership of his cousin Daddy Harry (1st French who played at Sunsplash Festival in Jamaica) until his first album “Yon Pa Yon” (Sekel/Small/SonyMusic) released on 2002, Yaniss built his career slowly but safely. His artistic choices were regularly received with success and the featuring which he made on Tiken Jah Fakoly, Ky-Mani Marley, Don Choa or Fonky Family’s albums proved that Yaniss’ message federates regardless of origins styles or publics.
With that experience he oriented his career in 2006 co founding the Legalize Hits label with which he released “High Tunes” album which have been nominated by the Afro Caribbean Arts Trophy, and “Hit 2 Hits” his last opus who has been elected as Best Album of the Year in 2008 by the Reggae Victories organized by France Inter, Reggae.fr and lots of others websites, based on the public’s votes.
But it’s particularly on stage that we can realize how phenomenal Yaniss is! Coming from the Sound Systems’ education which he’s cultivating since his first age, Yaniss really transcend each one of his performance. With more than 600 gigs performed he’s seducing his public every time thanks to his energy and generosity.
On January 2012 Yaniss celebrated his 20 years of professional career and signed his big return in studio for the recording of his eagerly awaiting solo album. An album that he carefully prepared between France and Jamaica with the legendary Clive Hunt (Jimmy Cliff, Alpha Blondy; Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Khaled…) which yet announced as THE reggae release in 2013!!
